About Virginia Beach Residents Directory

Virginia Beach has no all-purpose public list of every resident. Its useful records sit with different custodians: the Assessor connects parcels and assessment owners, the Circuit Court Clerk records deeds, elections staff administer voter access, and library collections preserve older directories. This private reference brings those routes together so a name, address, or historical question can start with the right office or archive.

Why the Reference Exists

Printed directories are only one part of the Virginia Beach record trail. Present-day parcel information is held by the Real Estate Assessor, recorded land instruments by the Circuit Court Clerk, and historical household clues by library and archive collections. Virginia Beach is also an independent city, while older records often carry the Princess Anne County name. The reference identifies those separate routes, their access rules, and the clues each one can actually support.

What You Will Find Here

  • Pages by question: the Streets directory for address records, the City Directory for historical volumes, and the Resident Lookup for careful one-person checks
  • Custodian routes: the Assessor, Circuit Court Clerk, Registrar, courts, vital-records offices, library, and Library of Virginia
  • Record methods: parcel and GPIN searches, dated directory entries, deed chains, and archive research
  • Access boundaries: Virginia Freedom of Information Act routes, record-specific confidentiality rules, and the limits of a web portal
